9.5.2018

A total of 75 new businesses were founded via the advice services of Lahti Region Development LADEC during the first quarter of 2018. This is 32 per cent more than during the same period last year.

LADEC offers confidential business advice free of charge, from the business idea phase all the way to registering the business. Päivi Leppänen, the director in charge of start-up and business development services, considers the first quarter of the year to have been successful and emphasises that the good first quarter is a result of long-term efforts.

‘During the period under review, a total of 157 new customers used our start-up advice, with a total of 302 visits by customers over the three-month period. Some of those who founded their business during the first quarter have utilised our business advice services previously and are now ready to launch their operations after the thorough consultation process. New businesses have also been founded actively in April, with 26 new businesses founded,’ states Päivi Leppänen.

Of the new businesses founded via LADEC during the first quarter of the year, the majority, a total of 44, were sole proprietors, accounting for a total of 57.9 per cent of the total number. The number of businesses founded varies on a monthly basis, as do the sector and business entity chosen. For example, 53.8 per cent of the businesses founded via LADEC in April were limited companies. The majority of the businesses founded during the period under review, specifically 75 per cent, were set up in service sectors. The new businesses represent a wide range of sectors.

The start-up advice services offered by LADEC are a part of the nationwide network of Finnish Enterprise Agencies, which is active in 29 cities. A total of 2,126 new businesses were founded through the 29 Finnish Enterprise Agencies during the first quarter of 2018. This is two per cent more than during the same period last year.
