Lahti Region Development LADEC Ltd
PRESS RELEASE 14 February 2022

In recent years, there has been a slight steady growth in the number of new businesses started in the Lahti region, despite COVID-19: In 2021, a total of 1,119 new businesses were started in the municipalities covered by Lahti Region Development LADEC Ltd’s operating area, namely Asikkala, Hartola, Hollola, Iitti, Lahti, Orimattila and Padasjoki. This was 48 businesses (4%) more than in 2020 and as many as 93 businesses (8%) more than in 2019, which was a ‘normal’ year before the outbreak of the pandemic.  According to the statistics of the Finnish Patent and Registration Office, the number of new businesses started across Finland in 2021 was roughly 6% more than in 2020.

Director of LADEC’s Entrepreneurship and Business Development Services Päivi Karttunen considers the slight growth in the number of new businesses started in LADEC’s operating area to be a positive thing. She is particularly happy about the fact that the number of new businesses that made use of the free-of-charge LADEC start-up advice offered by the municipalities in 2021 was slightly higher than in 2020. According to the feedback received from customers, as much as 92 per cent of customers are prepared to recommend LADEC’s start-up advice.

-  "All those who are planning on becoming entrepreneurs in our region should absolutely make use of our free-of-charge start-up advice, which is ISO 9001 certified through the network of Finnish Enterprise Agencies. According to impact evaluations, more than 80 per cent of the businesses that received advice from the Finnish Enterprise Agencies in the start-up phase are still in operation after five years, whereas the corresponding percentage is roughly 50 per cent for all businesses started in Finland. In other words, new entrepreneurs can build a more stable foundation for their business with help from our business advisors than they would without it,” says Päivi Karttunen.
