20.2.2019

A total of 239 new companies were established in the Lahti region through LADEC in 2018, which is an increase of 8 per cent compared to the previous year. LADEC’s start-up advice services are a part of the Finnish Enterprise Agencies network, which operates in 29 locations in Finland.

Last year, 7,771 new companies were established in Finland through the Enterprise Agencies, which is an increase of 4 per cent compared to 2017.

Of the people who started a business through the Enterprise Agencies in 2018, approximately 50 per cent were under 36 years old, 30 per cent were unemployed and 10 per cent were students. The percentage of pensioners grew from 1 per cent to 3 per cent. Furthermore, 35 per cent of the new entrepreneurs had been employed in the private sector prior to starting their own business.

According to Päivi Leppänen, the director of start-up and development services at LADEC, new companies in the Lahti region concentrated particularly on the service sector, following the same trend as in previous years.

Finnish Enterprise Agencies is a joint private and public sector endeavour, established in 1989 by Finnish businesses. The establishing parties and background forces of the organisation represent society at large, but the activities are business-driven. The Finnish Enterprise Agencies members comprise the 29 regional enterprise agencies set up around Finland, as well as a number of companies, entities and experts who want to be involved in the first steps of successful new companies. The regional centres offer free-of-charge, confidential advisory services for new entrepreneurs and those planning to start a business. The advisory services are ISO 9001:2015 certified. After the first year, 90 per cent of new companies established with the help of the enterprise agencies are still in operation, and after five years, the figure is an impressive 80 per cent. www.uusyrityskeskus.fi
